Standard Quake II fps Test

Here's the standard way of testing fps in Quake II

----------------------------

25/4/98 QUake 2 FPS Benchmark site
I found this site with user submitted benchmarks. It's useful to see the experience of others so you can see if your getting the most out of your system...and of course to gloat over those unfortunates who don't have a 3d card and get <10fps hahahahah...oh and think evil thoughts at those with voodooIIs and get 65fps+ BASTARDS! Xtro. (Hope Rebem doesn't mind me butting into his page!) ----------------------------

It's pretty important to compare like for like when doing frame per second (fps) tests. The following setup is used world wide for testing fps in Quake II. So when you hear someone on a site say "I get 28 fps with my x brand card", they're usually referring to this. It may not be entirely accurate, but it IS the standard.

We've written an alias and bound it to the F11 key. Here it is:

bind f11 "s_initsound 0;snd_restart;timedemo 1;map demo1.dm2"

So, what it does is turn sound off, set time based demo mode on, then run demo1.dm2. You should make sure that you don't display the console or the menu while it's running, and when it finishes, type map demo1.dm2 and run it through again and again until you eliminate any hard disk access.

Try it!!
