Leaked Q3atest Fun and Screenies
Well, I couldn't resist :). Got it, managed to get it working ok, ICQed Harmer and we had a game. Let me tell you it's gonna ROCK! Here's some things I liked:
- It ran on my p166 with 4meg Voodoo 1 card, albeit at 512x384 and low quality. But hell, it ran!
- The network play was fantastic even with a ping of 400+ which blew me away!
- There's a groovy net meter that sits, permanently in the botton RH corner (see pics below).
- The chat icon above a players head while they talk (see pics below).
- Mist: adds a whole new dimension which was exciting.
- The BFG10k !!! FARK!
- Textures/models/animations (backflips hahaha)
Here are the links:
Problems:
- Video Drivers: Heaps of problems here. Copying the 3dfxgl.dll file from Quake2 and renaming it to voodoogl.dll didn't work. Grabbed the 2.1 opengl beta from 3dfx (link above) and copied the driver file from that renaming it to opengl32.dll. This works but I still have troubles. The safest method for me to play is to choose 512x384 resolution and choose and arena from the single player menu. Doing it in other ways often causes a crash with the "no Opengl subsystem" error.
- Maps: I had a copy of tim_dm1.bsp that was 606k and wouldn't work. Harmer had one that was 604k and seems to work. Dunno how that came to pass.
- Network: Network play sucked bad, I was constantly frozen. Then I remebered the 'rate' setting :). It was set to the default of '25000' and so setting it to '2500' solved it.
- Player Models: When we started playing we were both blank white. In the Player Configuration menu swapping the 'Sarge' and the '.' made the difference....who knows! *shrug*
...and the results? Well when the game crashed on us both Harmer was 17 and I was 7 I think :) But hey he had a ping of 0 and I was 400+ !!
