Origins of the model:
"Neon Genesis Evangelion is a popular anime series which has spread to areas around the globe. It is about Humans fighting with Angels (which are messengers sent by god?!?!) and also to prevent the extinction of humanity. And to do that, the top scientist of the world created the Evangelions. This are artificial beings without soul. These Evas function through a Cerebral Nerve link with their operators. The pilots, whom are a group of special children, all aged 14, acts as the Evangelion's soul.
This model is based on the Test type Evangelion, called EVA-01, which is also the hero's Evangelion. EVA-01 is unique compared to the other EVAs because it is the only EVA that can operate without power supply (that's if Shinji (the hero) is in EVA-01 first)."

I've never actually seen the series and news of it's origins was a surprise to me until recently. After searching for a while, we chose this model mainly because of it's animation, appearance and general overall quality. And since it's the modeler's, Ionized Kit, first effort a damn fine job. It also got 5 stars from the Quake 2 Player Model Pack.
I think it's only downfall is the lack of vwep support. Now this shouldn't be a problem now that non-vwep models will still work in quake 2 right? Well we've found that some MODs still stuff it up (CTF isn't obne of them but sconfig is) and give the EVA-01 nappies. Styles came up with a good solution. We just copy the wepaon.md2 file a number of times and rename each one to a weapon model file e.g. w_bfg.md2, w_railgun.dm2 and so on. This works well.

"The Eva-01 Sound Pack has sounds for the model which are taken from the show "Neon Genesis Evangelion" from which the model is based on. This in itself is promising, as the generic grunting marine sounds provided with Quake2 are not sufficient to portray the "Mecha" nature of the model. However, the sounds are not done well enough to actually use during play.
The sounds themselves are actually very good, however they seem to be sampled very badly, and the volume of the sounds is much too loud. Most of the sounds are too long for their purpose. For example, most of the pain sounds are up to one second in length. While this may not seem like much, this length and the loud volume of the pain sound is very distracting. Some of the sounds are also very badly edited - they begin abruptly and finish as abruptly as they began. This reduces the overall quality of the sounds. While most of these sounds are too long, the jump noise is much too short. I myself have a .wav of this particualr sound, and I am puzzled to hear that the author, "Shook-Yang" has almost halved the running time of the sound.
The sounds contained within the pack are actually very good ones, relavent to the situation in which they are to be played. However bad editing and sampling let down the pack from which it could have been, a great sound pack for a great model; to a mediocre sound pack for a great model for a great show.
