Tom's Hardware looks at the business side of online gaming
Category / Games
There's an interesting article on Tom's Hardware about the online gaming business and how it's going to explode. Check this out:
"The average age of a gamer is now 28. The video gaming industry (both PC and console-related - hardware and software), at well over US$15 billion, is larger than the movie box office business. Super Mario, the Wall Street Journal reports, has sold more software on the basis of his mustachioed mug than Mel Gibson or Schwarzenneger have sold tickets at the box office."Even more astounding is that MS intends to spend 2 BILLION dollars promoting online gaming. Far out!

In the spirit of crackpot internet theories I give you my own future prediction about Microsoft:
Microsoft will get paid each time you log into any Windows machine, anywhere.
WAGZ Battlefield 1942 Review
Category / Games
WAGZ has done a review of Battlefield 1942 (hint: they like it).
"Picture this; you spawn on the battleship just of the coast of Iwo Jima. Japanese artillery fire is erupting all around you as you climb aboard the landing craft with 4 other nervous looking fellows. You pilot the craft into the shore amongst the wreckage and lower the ramp. You then pile out onto a lovely sandy beach and start to dodge the machine gun fire from the position on the hill above. After a couple of attempts the beach is yours and now you climb aboard a tank that has just been deposited on the beach."
Dan's Data Handy Hint #2763
Category / Links
Dan's Data is one of the best PC hardware sites around and Australian to boot. Here's an awsome handy tip:
"Running Windows XP? Got an Nvidia graphics card? Want to make your computer shut down a bit faster, and maybe avoid some crashes?Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, and find "NVIDIA Driver Helper Service" in the list. This Service exists to apply custom gamma settings in the Control Panel, handle your TwinView settings, and so on. Which means that most people who are running it don't need to. Stop the service and set its startup type to "manual", and the blighter won't run unless you change its settings back again."

Then the web has everything you could hope for!
Check out this site: http://www.godhatesamerica.com. Here's an enjoyable quote:
"One week after America is struck by God's Hand, the Pervert in Chief George W. Bush swears in an out of the closet, militant homosexual, Michael Guest to be Ambassador to Romania! The representative face of America to Europe is an out of the closet fag!"Oh man could people get any stupider?
Model weirdness in RA3

Here's an odd thing that happens in RA3; the models loose their configuration and fall apart!
From this...

I just bought a spiffy new PC. Here's an example of how much better it is. RA3 has gone from looking like this:

The Ultimate Silent PC
Category / Hardware
Rabit Hardware have a cool article on building a silent PC, a pet topic of mine since buying an AMD XP2100 and Valcano 7. Their solution consists of ripping out all the annoying fans, heatsinks and noisy electronics and wrapping everything in sound-deadening Dynamat. Remarkable!

Twiki is dead! Long live Moveable Type!
Matmos caved in without a fight, that's the sort of emotion Evil Empire generates in the faithful, my friends. He told me he'd rather play Daikatana solidly for the rest of his natural life that live without the EvEm website.
Now that's saying something!
Evil Empire has been kidnapped
Category / Evil Empire
To [EvEm]_Matmos,
I have kidnapped the Evil Empire website. To show I mean business I have placed Relic's Uber-Windtunnel PC in the hands of "Evil Omen" the most blood thristy IT worker in history. There it will remain in agony until my demands are met:
- Twiki must die, quickly but make sure it squeals in agony as it goes
- Moveable Type must be installed
- The Content must be migrated to Moveable Type
- All references to Twiki must be wiped, scoured, torched from all surfaces at Evil Empire, and if you can lend me a tounge scraper so I can scrape the taste of it from my mouth I'd be greatful
- Matmos responds favourably to my love letters
- Did I meantion Twiki must die?
- Jelly and icecream for desert
Matmos, I await your response.
